When Ron Leach Of Lincoln, Ne, turned 25 years old this January he wanted what every 25-year-old would want: a big birthday bash, including a cake and a DJ, attended by everyone he’s ever known.

But Ron wanted one other thing this year, something that really set him apart; he wanted everyone who attended his party to donate $10 to the Nebraska Children’s Home Society (NCHS) Foundation.

“I always knew I was adopted,” says Ron. “There was never a time that I wondered where I came from or how I came to be with my parents. I was always taught to be proud – proud that I was adopted, and grateful, just as my parents were, to the Nebraska Children’s Home Society for making us a family. I’ve always wanted to do something for NCHS, I just didn’t know what. This just seemed to be a great way to raise both money and awareness.”

Every day the Nebraska Children’s Home Society receives notes of thanks, not just from proud parents, but from the children themselves, now grown, writing to tell us about the life they now enjoy – one they may never have known.

“Who knows where I would have ended up or what my life would have been like without NCHS,” says Ron, whose parents could not have afforded to adopt him on their own. “I had a wonderful childhood, growing up in the church, with a mother who shared her love of music with me.” Ron won multiple awards for singing in high school and continues to sing in his church choir. He enjoys his job – working on national accounts for a large food service distribution company in Lincoln – and hopes to adopt his own children one day.
